The number of deaths from covid-19 in Lar do Comércio, in Matosinhos, has already exceeded two dozen. Among the advances and setbacks by the administration, since there are no “necessary human resources” to guarantee basic care for users, the Municipal Commission for Civil Protection of Matosinhos (CMPCM), made up of Civil Protection, Health Unit Public and Social Security, decided to temporarily mobilize, from this Thursday, 59 of the residents to other institutions. Those who do not leave will be housed in two floors of the building equipped with more than 300 rooms or transferred to the 78 beds available by the Municipality of Matosinhos (CMM) in the institution’s nursery facilities.

In a first phase, 48 dependent users who are not infected will be transferred to the Red Cross Neurointervention Center, in Vila Nova de Gaia, and to the Porto Military Hospital, for a maximum period of 8 days, the municipality advances by notification, reiterated by the institution. The 10 users who tested positive for Covid will be transferred to the Matosinhos Community Support Center, where they will remain until their full recovery. 70 self-employed residents who tested negative will be transferred to the nursery. Until the space is disinfected, the rest will occupy floors 0 and 1, where the infected users are currently located. The change will be made after disinfecting these areas, in charge of the Civil Protection in conjunction with the Portuguese Army.

Only about half of the rooms in the house are occupied, there are currently around 150 older people living there. When the pandemic hit the building, approximately 200 people lived in this century-old institution. The number of residents has decreased due to deaths, hospitalizations, and relocation of users in the family home. Since the start of the pandemic, 22 people have died from covid-19. However, the house said, also through communication, that the total number stands at 27 dead: 5 of the recorded deaths are the result of other causes. There are currently 10 people infected and three users with the inconclusive test result. There are also 18 hospitalized users.

The mobilization will be carried out with the collaboration of the LdC management, who last week presented the hypothesis of a total temporary mobilization to proceed with the disinfection of the facilities and the creation of circuits in clean and dirty areas. But, the same day, after meeting with the CMPCM, he ended up backtracking due to the difficulty he considered in finding alternative accommodation for all users. At that time, 13 of the infected users had already died.

But now the mobilization is going to advance. The operation will be coordinated by the District’s Civil Protection Command. The CMPCM stipulated the eight-day period as the deadline for completion. The commission warns that it is necessary to comply with what was agreed for the post-disinfection phase: “Lar do Comércio must guarantee the reorganization of services and procedures and guarantee the hiring of adequate human resources to receive and serve all its users,” he says. the statement of the statement.
