Canadian cyclist Nigel Ellsay (Rally Cycling) and a yellow flag were taken to hospital on Tuesday after being involved in a crash in the second stage, with both prognoses “serious”.

Ellsay hit the yellow flag, which she was signaling at the beginning of the second round, and both were transferred to the Padre Américo – Vale do Sousa hospital.

A source from the Volta a Portugal organization told Lusa that the prognosis for the two injured is “serious”, that the two ambulances accompanying the race were removed from the stage and that the race doctor came to accompany one of the injured .

However, two other ambulances have already joined the racing caravan.

At the beginning of the second stage, which joins Paredes with the top of Senhora da Graça, a total of 167 kilometers, the 98 cyclists registered in this Tour of Portugal lined up, with Nigel Ellsay being the first deserter.
