Crane truck knocks down power pole, kills 52-year-old man

A 52-year-old man died on Wednesday and another suffered minor injuries after an accident involving a truck that toppled a power pole on Rua da Constitution in Porto, a source from the PSP told Lusa.

According to the Public Relations source of the Oporto PSP Metropolitan Command, the lamppost was knocked down by the truck’s crane that hit the man on the street.

In reaction to what happened, the Porto City Council confirmed that the vehicle belongs to the municipality, offering condolences to the victim’s family.

The company has already ordered the opening of an internal investigation process into the causes of this accident and, of course, it is also available to collaborate with the authorities ”., adds the note.

The victim was still transported alive to the Santo António Hospital, but eventually died.

The structure also affected a gas station worker, who suffered minor injuries.

The accident happened around 07:50.
