CP signed this Wednesday the contract with Stadler for the purchase of 22 regional trains, following the challenge presented by CAF – Construcciones Y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles, one of the competitors.

In a statement, Stadler points out that the contract, valued at around 158 million euros, involves the acquisition of 10 electric wagons and 12 bimodal units, which can run on diesel and electricity, and includes maintenance service for a minimum period of 4 years. , as well as the provision of training services.

Stadler also points out that this award “constitutes the first entry of the FLIRT model for passengers in the Iberian Peninsula”, and adds that the 22 Iberian gauge FLIRTs are “made up of three wagons and offer a maximum capacity of 375 passengers, of which 214 they can go seated “. They can also reach a top speed of 160 or 140 km / hour, depending on the power source used.

In the statement, Ansgar Brockmeyer, executive vice president of commercial and marketing of the Stadler Group, stated that “the Portuguese market is extremely important for Stadler and it is our intention to contribute to the revitalization of the national railway industry.”

Stadler’s Swiss company won the tender to supply the 22 new regional trains to CP in December 2019, but a challenge to the tender results by CAF has so far prevented it from closing the procedure.

In addition to this purchase, in June of this year CP acquired 50 wagons from the Spanish Renfe and plans to launch bids for the purchase of 129 new trains in the coming years, most of them urban services.
