The number of people infected by the new coronavirus at the Minde Social Welfare Center, in Alcanena, dropped to 89 users and 32 workers today, after the results of tests carried out on Wednesday showed the recovery of 39 people.

The mayor of Alcanena, Fernanda Asseiceira, told Lusa that “she expected a higher percentage of people recovered”, which is explained by the longer recovery time that has been seen among the elderly population.

According to the mayor, the number of deaths in this house has remained the same since last Tuesday, the 15th, with 13 patients still hospitalized at the Centro Hospitalar do Médio Tejo, one less than that day.

The outbreak was identified on November 7 after an elderly woman was tested for SARS-CoV-2 when she was admitted to the Centro Tejo Hospital.

Fernanda Asseiceira said that, taking into account the new guidelines, which refer to a reduction in the risk of contagion from 20 days after the first positive result, there will only be new tests if cases with symptoms arise.

The mayor said that the house, which has two buildings, “has adapted well to the new routines.”

His expectation is that, with the reduction in cases verified today, the municipality, which is among those classified as extremely high risk, can “go down to the orange level.”

In the tests carried out on November 20, there were a total of 158 infected (111 users and 47 workers), with two dead at that time and only 12 users had a negative result in the test, being isolated from the rest.

From November 20 to December 1 there were 13 more deaths.

In Portugal, 4,803 people died from 312,553 confirmed cases of infection, according to the most recent bulletin from the Directorate General of Health.
