The number of covid-19 infections in the Algarve has skyrocketed: according to figures from the local Regional Health Administration, there are already six counties where the number of new cases of infection is equal to or greater than 240 per 100,000 inhabitants, when so far a municipality that exceeded this limit established by the government.

Thus, in addition to São Brás de Alportel, the number of infections now exceeds 240 per 100,000 inhabitants in the municipalities of Faro, Portimão, Albufeira, Vila Real de Santo António and Vila do Bispo.

The municipality of Albufeira has already crossed the red line defined by the Government and has already reached 262.5 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

Another of the municipalities at risk is Faro, with 286.8 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the last 14 days. Portimão shoots with 295.6 infections per 100,000 inhabitants, São Brás de Alportel already has 336 and Vila do Bispo with 426.9 new infections and Vila Real de Santo António with 298.7 infected.

Counties below the limit

Furthermore, in the municipality of Alcoutim and Monchique the situation seems, for now, under control. Both counties had no new cases of infection.

Aljezur has 17.9 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants, Castro Marim with 80.2.

Above a hundred is the municipality of Lagoa, with 166.9 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, Olhão (177.9) and Silves (143.5).

More than 200 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the previous 14 days are Lagos (223.9), Loulé (230) and Tavira (216.1).

The Algarve has a total of 16 counties, of which only one is on the red list that will be reviewed this Thursday by the Government in the Council of Ministers.
