A Lusa, the communication office of the University of Porto (U. Porto) said that today 38 more positive cases were detected, from 41 to 79 the number of students in the ERASMUS program [de mobilidade académica entre estudantes de todo o mundo] infected.

In a statement released Thursday night, U. Porto clarified that its positive cases are “distributed among several teachers and various courses.”

This “reinforces the belief of health authorities that the infection occurred outside the context of classes or other activities within the university,” he adds.

U. Porto also affirmed that, so far, there have been no cases of contagion “within the premises”.

Also in response to the Lusa agency, following the covid-19 outbreak among higher education students in Porto, the Porto Polytechnic Institute (IPP) said today that 20 of its students were infected, 14 of which are from the ERASMUS program and seven are national.

The IPP, which does not know if, in addition to the 20 infected students, there are other students or teachers in prophylactic isolation.

The institution says that it is evaluating “on its own initiative” all ERASMUS students, out of a total of 195, and following the recommendations of health authorities.

On Thursday, the Northern Regional Health Administration (ARS-N) revealed that 49 higher education students from Porto were infected with covid-19.

Contacted by Lusa today, ARS-N said it had not received any updates to the data released on Thursday.
