COVID-19. The Algarve has never had so many new cases in one day – Observer

These figures are very far from the reality of the North or Lisbon and the Tagus Valley -which together represent 82% of the 374 new cases this Saturday-, but the Algarve showed a peak in the bulletin of the General Directorate of Health: In the last 24 hours, it went from 10 to 37 new confirmed cases, reaching the highest daily figure since the pandemic began. Only on June 18 (35 cases) and June 19 (32 cases) did the region have approximate values.

This figure is recorded after an outbreak in the Louletano senior soccer team was revealed this Friday, in which a total of 33 athletes and members of the coaching staff tested positive.

The figures for the Algarve this Saturday are in counter-cycle with those of the country, which had a slight reduction (from 401 to 374), covering most of the regions, even in the north, which exceeded the Lisbon region and the Tagus Valley in the number of daily cases.

With 157 new patients, less than 166 the day before, the region once again leads this list (the last time was last Sunday). Northern cases account for 42% of all infections in the last 24 hours.

The Lisbon and Tagus Valley region, which includes the Lisbon district and part of the Setúbal, Santarém and Leiria districts, registered 149 new cases, 39.8% of the total.

In the remaining regions, the Center went from 29 cases to 23; the Alentejo 9 to 3; and Madeira from 5 to 4.

The Azores, which had not registered any cases the day before, now have a new patient.

In the country as a whole, three deaths with Covid-19 were registered (less than six the previous day). There are still 324 people hospitalized (ten fewer) and 40 patients hospitalized in Intensive Care Units (two more).
