Switzerland eliminated Portugal from the list of countries at high risk of infection by the new coronavirus, the Swiss Embassy in Lisbon announced this Friday in a statement.

As of this Saturday, December 19, people who return to Switzerland from Portugal will no longer have to serve a ten-day quarantine period, thus exempting migrants who intend to spend Christmas and New Years in Portuguese territory from the obligation to remain in quarantine upon return.

Earlier this month, Switzerland announced that it would put Portugal on the list of high-risk countries. The decision was based on data from the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC). However, more than 10,000 Portuguese emigrants in Switzerland signed a petition for Portugal to be removed from this list, claiming that the data was out of date and related to a time when the country was emerging from the peak of the 19 pandemic pandemic and the el number of new cases is still very high.
