The members of the Council of State and all those present at the meeting of that body last Tuesday, in Cascais, will be tested for covid-19 between this Sunday and Monday, the Presidency reported.

Official source from Belém told Lusa that the Presidency of the Republic was informed this Sunday at the end of the afternoon, by himself, that the advisor António Lobo Xavier is infected with the new coronavirus.

The Presidency “immediately warned everyone present” at the meeting of that body, last Tuesday, in Cascais.

The President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, who chaired the meeting on Tuesday, will not be subject to tests since he did so at the weekend, days after the meeting, with a negative result.

The Prime Minister, António Costa, and the President of the Assembly of the Republic, Ferro Rodrigues, await the result of the test in time to find out if they can participate in the commemorative ceremony of the Implantation of the Republic, which will take place from 10:30 am, at Praça do En Lisboa.

This ceremony remains scheduled until there is a clinical result that justifies any change, said the same source.

In addition to the state advisers, the president of the European Commission, Ursula Von der Leyen, participated in Tuesday’s meeting in Cascais.

Contacted by Lusa, the lawyer António Lobo Xavier said that he had already spoken with the President of the Republic and that he only had symptoms on Thursday afternoon, namely “mild fever and fatigue.” “Right now I have no fever and I feel fine,” he added.

In the photographs of the meeting of the Council of State at the Palácio da Cidadela, in Cascais, everyone present is wearing a mask, with António Lobo Xavier seated, at some distance, between Leonor Beleza and Francisco Louçã.

Also present at this Tuesday’s meeting were former presidents Ramalho Eanes, Jorge Sampaio and Cavaco Silva, as well as the president of the Constitutional Court, Costa Andrade, the president of the PSD, Rui Rio, and the leader of the PCP Domingos Abrantes.
