This Saturday, Portugal added 1,646 new confirmed cases of covid-19, the highest number since the first cases were registered in Portuguese territory. In the same period, five people died, two in the north, two in Lisbon and Vale do Tejo and one in the Algarve. In total, Portugal now has 2,067 deaths and 85,574 cases of infection, with 30,704 active cases, 1,002 more than on Friday.

Before the numbers recorded now, the highest number had been recorded on April 10, at 1,516. Thus, Thursday and Friday became, respectively, the fourth and third worst days since the first cases were registered in Portugal, in March. However, it should be noted that compared to the early days of the pandemic, the ability to test is higher today.

920 of the new cases were registered in the northern health region, 546 in Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, eight in each of the Alentejo and Algarve health regions, seven in Madeira and two in the Azores.

In hospitals there are about twenty more people in general admission, bringing the total to 831. In intensive care units there are already 122 people, three less than on Friday.

The number of people recovered increased to 52,803 (639 more than on Friday).

These data are contained in the epidemiological bulletin issued by the Directorate General of Health (DGS), released this Saturday afternoon, at the end of a week with two consecutive days with the number of new cases exceeding a thousand.

The covid-19 pandemic has already claimed more than one million sixty-three thousand deaths and more than 36.5 million cases of contagion around the world, according to a report prepared by the French agency AFP.
