Covid-19: Portugal with 849 new cases of contagion in the last 24 hours – News

According to the figures from the epidemiological bulletin of the General Directorate of Health (DGS) this Saturday, in the last 24 hours there were 5 deaths in Portugal from Covid-19 and 849 new cases of contagion.

Of the 849 new cases, 439 are in the Lisbon region and the Tagus Valley. The North is the second most affected region with 288 new registered cases, followed by the Central region, with 66 cases, Algarve with 35 and Alentejo with 16. Madeira has 5 more cases and in the Azores there have been no new infections in the last 24 hours.

As for the deaths, the fatal victims are two men and two women over 80 years of age and a woman between 70 and 79 years old. Four of the fatal victims were from the north and one from Lisbon and the Tagus valley.

Regarding the number of people hospitalized for the disease, there are 32 more situations, in a total of 497 hospitalized patients. In the intensive care units there are 7 more people hospitalized, in a total of 64 cases.

In total, Portugal now has 68,025 confirmed cases of infection since the start of the pandemic and 1,899 deaths.

To date there are 20,722 active cases (493 more than yesterday) and a total of 45,404 recovered cases (351 more than on Friday).

39,388 people are under surveillance, a number that has increased by 667 in the last 24 hours.

The disease affects women more than men (37,290 women versus 30,735 men), but has been shown to be more lethal in men than women (958 versus 941).
