COVID-19. Portugal with 79 deaths, 5,891 new cases (this week’s peak) and 4,257 recovered in 24 hours

Newsletter of this Wednesday of the General Directorate of Health (DGS) registers 79 deaths (two less than Tuesday) and 5,891 new cases of covid-19 in Portugal, the highest number of new infected in 24 hours this week and represents an increase of 2.6% compared to the total of the previous day.

Furthermore, there are 4,257 recoveries left to record, less than Tuesday, much less than Monday. Therefore, subtracting the cured from the new cases and deaths, Portugal once again sees an increase in active cases: there are more than 1,555, in a total of 78,641.

On a day when there is the first stoppage of the week in fatalities (there were 79), there are two deaths in the house in the 40 years. The rest are between 60 and 69 years old (six deaths), 70 (nine deaths) and more than 80 years (62 deaths).

In addition, the other major concern of the pandemic in Portugal continues to be hospitals, which see the number of hospitalized patients reach a new high: 3,051.

The growth is due to 23 new patients admitted to the ward and one more patient in intensive care (there are now 432 in this condition).

The worst day in history in the Center, cases in Lisbon double compared to Tuesday, Madeira with fewer cases in a month and a half

The North continues to be the territory that concentrates the most new cases nationwide: 3,191, that is, 54.2% of the national total. This is the region with the most cases for 42 days; the last time this did not happen was on October 7 (in this case, Lisboa and Vale do Tejo recorded the most new infections).

However, there are other data to highlight from this analysis by regions, starting with the second most affected, Lisbon and the Tagus Valley: the number of cases doubles compared to the previous day, from 812 to 1,637 (27.8% of the national total) this Wednesday. However, it is close to the average of the last seven days (1617.4).

The center records the worst day of the pandemic: 791 cases (13.4% of the national total). On the other hand, Madeira equals the best record of the last month and a half (45 days): only one case, such as October 4.

The Alentejo has more than 133 SARS-CoV-2 infections in the last 24 hours, the Algarve 119 and the Azores more than 19 cases.
