Portugal registered 19 more deaths from covid-19 and 564 new cases of SARS-CoV-2 infection in the last day. The data appear in the bulletin issued by the Directorate General of Health (DGS) released this Saturday and refer to Friday.
In the country, there are fewer 66 people hospitalized and 13 fewer in intensive care. Currently, in total, there are 980 people admitted to hospitals in the country, of which 253 require intensive care.
The total of hospitalizations today is the lowest since the October 14 bulletin, when there were 957 hospitalizations, thus returning, now, to below a thousand (in the October 15 bulletin the number was 993). The total number of hospitalizations in intensive care units is also the lowest since data released on October 27, when the same number was recorded. The number of hospitalizations, in fact, has been on a downward trend, at least since the February 23 bulletin, with the exception of March 1.
Another 6,489 people recovered from the disease (a total of 756,259). It is the highest number of recoveries since the one verified in the DGS bulletin of February 16 (which registered 8,865 recoveries).
Portugal still registers 5,944 fewer active cases, in a global universe of 40,788. And there are also 823 fewer surveillance contacts (a total of 17,215).
Regarding the different regions of the country, the DGS bulletin does not register deaths in the Azores (27 new cases) and Madeira (53 new infections), nor in the Algarve. Of the 19 deaths, the majority (13) occurred in the Lisbon and Vale do Tejo region, where 208 more new cases were also recorded. In the North, on the last day, three people died from the disease and another 132 infections emerged. In the Downtown area, there were two deaths and 114 new cases in this 24-hour period; in Alentejo, one death and 26 new cases. In the Algarve, there were four new infections on the last day they emerged.
Since the beginning of the pandemic in the country, 16,669 people have died from covid-19 and 813,716 cases of SARS-CoV-2 infection have been confirmed.
In the DGS bulletin published on Friday, Portugal had recorded 15 deaths associated with the disease the day before, the lowest number of victims since October 19. And it had registered 577 new positive cases of SARS-CoV-2. 1,046 people were hospitalized in Portuguese hospitals and, of them, 266 are in intensive care units in the country: a value similar to that registered on October 28.
