Covid-19. Portugal with 1,163 deaths and 27,913 confirmed cases – O Jornal Economico

Portugal has a total of 27,913 confirmed cases of Covid-19, 234 more than the previous day, reveals the epidemiological bulletin of the General Directorate of Health published on Tuesday, May 12. The number of deaths from the new coronavirus in the country increased to 1,163, which corresponds to 19 additional deaths in the last 24 hours.

The epidemiological bulletin released this morning indicates that, to date, 279,933 suspected cases have been recorded and 2,719 people are still awaiting the results of Covid-19 laboratory tests. There are currently 249,301 unconfirmed cases after the analyzes, and 27,054 are under surveillance by health authorities.

DGS reveals that there are currently 16,053 cases registered in the North, 3,553 in the Center, 7,494 in Lisbon, 350 in the Algarve, 135 cases in the Autonomous Region of the Azores, 90 in the Autonomous Region of Madeira and 238 cases in the Alentejo.

Of the total 1,163 deaths, 660 were in the north, 219 in the center, 254 in Lisbon and the Tagus Valley, 14 in the Algarve, 15 in the Azores, one in Alentejo, and none recorded in Madeira.

The DGS bulletin lists one male fatality between the ages of 20 and 29, six female fatalities, and six male victims between the ages of 40 and 49. There were 28 male victims and 10 female victims in the age group of 50 to 59 years, 66 victims between 60 and 69 men and 35 women, 136 male deaths and 95 female deaths between 70 and 79 years. There are also 332 male victims and 448 female victims over the age of 80.

Currently, there are 709 hospitalized patients, 113 of whom are in Intensive Care Units (ICU) and 3,013 cases recovered in Portugal, an increase of 464.

Lisbon is the municipality with the most confirmed cases, with a total of 1,791, followed by Vila Nova de Gaia with 1,458 and Porto with 1,304. Matosinhos with 1,216, Braga with 1,153 and Gondomar with 1,050. Maia with 909, Sintra with 790, Valongo with 737 and Ovar with 635.

Guimarães also experienced an increase in cases, currently it has 663, while Coimbra has 561 and Loures has 536. Amadora has 458, Santa Maria da Feira and Cascais have 446 confirmed cases. The number of imported cases was 770.

The age group with the most confirmed cases is 50-59 years (1,857 men and 2,853 women), with a total of 4,710 after 40 to 49 years (1,865 men and 2,828 women), with a total of 4,693. There are 1,322 infected children and adolescents between 0 and 19 years of age. There are currently 11,497 men and 16,416 women infected with the new coronavirus.

The number of cases in the age groups between 30 and 39 years and 60 and 69 years has increased. The DGS bulletin supposes 1,717 men and 2,310 women infected between 30 and 39 years, and 1,455 men and 1,704 women with confirmed cases between 60 and 69 years. There are currently 2,881 women over 80 infected with Covid-19.

Furthermore, the age group between 20 and 29 years has seen a considerable increase in positive cases, with 1,489 men and 1,883 women with positive cases to date.

In relation to symptoms, the most reported are cough (42%), fever (30%), muscle pain (21%), headache (20%), generalized weakness (15%) and respiratory difficulties (12%) .
