Covid-19: Portugal registers three more deaths and 605 cases of infection | Coronavirus

This Wednesday Portugal registered three more deaths and 605 cases of contagion with the new coronavirus, which corresponds to an increase of 0.9%. This is the fifth time, in the past week, that the country has reported more than 600 new cases in 24 hours. In total, there are now 1,878 deaths and 65,626 confirmed cases since the start of the pandemic.


Of the 605 new cases, 290 (48%) were registered in Lisbon and Vale do Tejo and 201 (33%) in the North. The age group with the highest number of new cases is 30 to 39 years old (18%), followed by people 40 to 49 years old (17%). The data appear in the epidemiological bulletin this Wednesday released by the General Directorate of Health (DGS).


166 people recovered from the disease compared to the previous day, with a total of 44,528 recovered. There are currently 19,220 active cases, 436 more than Tuesday, after subtracting the number of recoveries and deaths from the total number of infections.

482 people are hospitalized (four more than on Tuesday), 61 of whom are in intensive care units (two more than the day before).


The three deaths reported in the last 24 hours have been identified in the capital region and correspond to three men over 80 years of age, the age group most affected by covid-19 in terms of deaths.


The region of the country with the highest number of infections is the Lisbon and Tagus Valley region, which has registered 33,587 accumulated cases since the beginning of the epidemic. North follows, with 23,729 cases; the Center, with 5,383 cases (53 more than the day before); the Algarve, with 1,277 cases (plus 18); and Alentejo, with 1217 cases (42 more in the last 24 hours). The archipelago of the Azores remains with a total of 240 cases of infection and Madeira has 193 infected (plus one).


The North is the region with the highest number of deaths from covid-19, with a cumulative total of 859. The Lisbon and Vale do Tejo region registered 709 deaths as of this Wednesday, followed by the Center, with 254 deaths. the Alentejo, with 22 deaths, and the Algarve, with 19 deaths from covid-19. The Azores archipelago continues with 15 fatalities from covid-19 and Madeira does not register, so far, no deaths.
