Covid-19: Portugal records 86 more deaths and 3,835 cases

This Saturday Portugal registers another 86 deaths and 3,835 new cases of covid-19, according to the bulletin released by the General Directorate of Health (DGS). The total number of deaths thus amounts to 6,063, out of a total of 370,787 confirmed infections.

There are 88 fewer hospitalized patients, out of a total of 2,973, the lowest number as of November 15. There are also 485 patients in intensive care units, one more than in the previous report.

4,124 patients recovered from the disease, reducing the number of active cases to 69,910.

The North region again registered the majority of cases (1,489) and also the majority of deaths (43). Lisbon and the Tagus Valley follow, with 1,169 new infections and 29 deaths.

Since the start of the pandemic, Portugal has registered 370,787 cases of infection by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, with 69,910 active today, 375 less than in relation to Friday.

Health authorities have 79,503 contacts under surveillance, 2,071 more than on Friday.

The bulletin also reveals that 4,124 cases were recovered. Since the start of the epidemic in Portugal, in March, 294,814 people have recovered.

Regarding the 86 deaths registered in the last 24 hours, 43 occurred in the North, 29 in the Lisbon and Vale do Tejo region, 10 in the Center, two in Alentejo, one in the Algarve and one in the Autonomous Region of Madeira.

According to the DGS bulletin, the northern region recorded the highest number of new SARS-CoV-2 infections in the last 24 hours (1,489).

Since the beginning of the pandemic, the North region has registered 192,547 cases and 2,873 deaths.

In the Lisbon and Tagus Valley region, 1,169 new infections have been reported, with 119,745 cases and 2,091 deaths so far.

In the Central region, there were 796 more cases, with a total of 40,348 infections and 845 deaths.

In Alentejo, 256 more cases were reported, totaling 8,862 infections and 162 deaths since the epidemic began in Portugal.

The Algarve region today reported 68 new cases, for a total of 6,526 infections and 63 deaths.

Madeira registered 36 new cases. Since March, this autonomous community has recorded 1,208 infections and eight deaths.

In the Autonomous Region of the Azores, 21 new cases were registered in the last 24 hours, totaling 1,551 infections detected and 21 deaths.

Confirmed cases are distributed in all age groups, with the highest number of infections between 20 and 59 years.

The new coronavirus has already infected at least 166,610 men and 204,041 women in Portugal, according to DGS data, with 136 cases of unknown sex being investigated, since these data are not provided automatically.

Of the total deaths, 3,157 were men and 2,906 women.

The highest number of deaths is still concentrated in people over 80 years old, followed by people between 70 and 79 years old.

The covid-19 pandemic caused at least 1,675,362 deaths derived from more than 75.6 million cases of infection worldwide, according to a report prepared by the French agency AFP.

The disease is transmitted by a new coronavirus detected in late December 2019 in Wuhan, a city in central China.
