According to the criteria of the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), by which Portugal was guided to define, this Saturday, new measures to control the pandemic, the country is now divided into four levels of severity.

The most serious level is “Extremely high” and this category includes municipalities with more than 960 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the last 14 days.

With the data released in the DGS daily bulletin, this Monday it can be said that there are 47 provinces at the highest level of contagion.

The five counties with the extremely high level of contagion with the highest values ​​are Lousada (2,791), Paços de Ferreira (2,533), Vizela (2,523), Guimarães (2,343) and Freixo de Espada à Cinta (2,335).

In alphabetical order, followed by the number of confirmed cases per 100,000 inhabitants, between the dates of November 6 to 19, the rest of the counties are:

Last week, these regions were also on the list of municipalities with more cases per 100,000 inhabitants, the order is different: Paços de Ferreira (3,698), followed by Lousada (3,362 infected) and Vizela (2,653 infected).

As for the very high-risk regions -which have cases between 480 and 959 per 100,000 inhabitants in the last 14 days- the list published this Monday adds up to 79. Those with the highest number of cases per 100 inhabitants are Miranda do Corvo (944), Arganil (944), Vila Verde (878), Ponte de Lima (869), Santa Marta de Penaguião and Armamar (both with 849).

It is on this level that the district capitals of Aveiro (508), Bragança (568), Guarda (770), Lisbon (625), Setúbal (520) and Vila Real (677) are also located.

The measures to combat the Covid-19 pandemic in municipalities with a very high and extremely high risk of contagion do not differ:

• Prohibition of circulation on public roads between 11 pm and 5 am on weekdays;

• Prohibition of circulation on public roads on Saturdays and Sundays between 1:00 pm and 5:00 am;

• Prohibition of circulation on public roads on December 1 and 8, between 1 and 5 in the morning;

• On November 30 and December 7, business establishments must close at 3 pm;

• An action will be put in place to monitor compliance with mandatory telework;

• The establishments close at 10:00 pm, except for restaurants and cultural facilities that may be open until 10:30 pm.

There are 17 municipalities with a 14-day incidence of between 20.0 and 59.9 per 100,000 inhabitants. There are also eleven counties with no new cases in this 14-day period.

In the usual DGS press conference, the Director General of Health stressed, however, that the “growing trend of the epidemic” is currently “less pronounced than in previous periods.” The Director General of Health said today that the North region continues to be more affected by covid-19, registering 1,332 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, but highlighted the trend towards a slowdown in some municipalities with high incidence.

“There are regional asymmetries and regional asymmetries. The northern region, with 1,332 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, continues to be the most affected, followed by the Lisbon and Vale do Tejo region with 500 cases per 100,000 inhabitants,” said Graça Freitas.
