The news is advanced by the Spanish agency Efe, which confirmed the information with sources from the executive. The summons comes hours after the Superior Court of Justice of Madrid rejected the measures imposed by the central government to restrict the movement of people in ten municipalities of the Community of Madrid, including the capital of the country, to alleviate the proliferation of SARS -CoV-2.

Spain today registered 12,423 new cases of covid-19, a quarter of which in Madrid, raising the total number of infected in the country to 848,324 since the start of the pandemic, according to information released by the Spanish Ministry of Health.

Authorities tallied an additional 126 deaths from the disease in the past 24 hours, increasing the total number of deaths to 32,688.

Madrid continues to be the autonomous community with the highest number of new infections, having added 3,152 more cases to Monday’s total, bringing the total to 258,767.

1,262 people have been admitted to hospitals with the disease in the last 24 hours throughout the country, of which 338 in Madrid, 163 in Andalusia and 142 in Catalonia.

Nationwide there are 10,645 people hospitalized with the disease, including 1,585 patients in intensive care units.

The Superior Court of Madrid today rejected the measures that restrict the movement of people in the Spanish capital, which had been imposed by the central government to combat the increase in cases of covid-19.

The health authorities of the central government and those of the autonomous communities are meeting this afternoon and it is expected that the Madrid authorities will announce the new measures before the start of a long weekend that ends with the holiday on Monday, when it celebrates the national day of Spain.

The authorities fear that hundreds of thousands of Madrilenians will spend the weekend outdoors, after Justice revoked the central government’s mobility restriction measures.

The Judiciary maintains that the measures proposed by the central government and approved by the coordinating body with the autonomous communities in the field of health “violate fundamental rights and freedoms.”

The court’s decision confirms the executive of the Community of Madrid, which implemented the measures imposed by the central government last Saturday.

The measures now revoked affected 4.5 million inhabitants, while those that had previously been adopted by the regional executive only reached one million.

In Spain, regional authorities have exclusive competence in health matters and the central government does not have the power to determine their health decisions.
