Covid-19 outbreak originating from a family religious holiday causes two deaths in Freamunde

Two people have died in recent days, in Freamunde, Paços de Ferreira, victims of the covid-19. In August, the municipality of Paços de Ferreira registered around 50 cases, most of which in Freamunde.

According to information confirmed to JN by an official source, the source of COVID-19 contamination in the city of Freamunde, in Paços de Ferreira, is identified by the authorities and has its origin in a family religious celebration.

Of the approximately 50 positive cases registered in the municipality of Paços de Ferreira this August, most are in Freamunde, associated with the aforementioned party.

It was also in Freamunde where, in recent days, there have been two deaths from the disease: that of a 71-year-old man – who died on August 24 – and that of a 75-year-old woman, who died three days later.

JN contacted the local health delegate, but did not get clarification in due course.

There is a “significant increase in new cases of covid-19” in the municipality

Given the current municipal reality, the health authorities of ACeS Tâmega III – Vale do Sousa Norte, the City Council, the Parish Council and Freamunde GNR issued a statement recognizing “a significant increase in the number of new cases in residents of the municipality, especially in the parish of Freamunde ”and where they confirmed the existence of deaths from the disease.

In this sense, they called on the population for the need to comply with covid-19 prevention measures and for attention to the symptoms associated with the disease.
