In one day, the world heard two magic words from the pandemic lexicon: vaccine and effectiveness. Precisely at a time when the SARS CoV-2 mark has exceeded 50 million infected and 1.9 million deaths. At a time when Europe is heavily attacked by the second wave, with countries such as Italy, France, Germany and the United Kingdom reaching more than 20,30,000 new cases per day. Portugal is no exception: yesterday there were 6653 new cases and 69 deaths.

Countries are tightening isolation measures, and after Pfizer and German partner BioNTech announced that the vaccine they are producing is more than 90% efficient, there are already those in the world of science calling: “More effort is needed on the part of the population, it is necessary to stop the disease transmission curve. If we succeed, we are saving lives,” said Luís Luís Graça, physician, researcher at the João Lobo Antunes Institute of Molecular Medicine. where he directs the Cellular Immunology laboratory and professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon.
