The Middle Tejo has this Tuesday a case of a person infected with SARS-COV-2. This is a student from a high school in Abrantes who took the test and found it positive.

Jorge Costa, director of the Solano de Abreu High School, confirmed to Antena Livre that he has a student who tested positive for SARS-COV-2 and who activated all the mechanisms provided for in the contingency plan.

The school spoke with the parents / guardians of all students in this student’s class who tested positive and other direct student contacts. These students will remain in teaching outside the classroom, that is, at home until all have been evaluated, which will happen next Thursday.

Maria dos Anjos Esperança, coordinator of the Middle Tagus Public Health Unit, says that the situation is, at this moment, totally under control, since the plans of the Abrantes school and the public health authorities have been put in place.

The doctor asks that there be no hysteria around this case because after detecting the case of the student who tested positive, the school spoke with the students in the class and their tutors, putting the young people under active surveillance. “They cannot leave the house. They can only leave on Thursday when they go to do the test and then they will have to wait for the results to be communicated to them ”, explained Maria dos Anjos Esperança.

He also explained that in these cases, teachers will also be tested, but will continue to teach, in accordance with the regulations of the Directorate General of Health. “Only teachers who may be in risk groups should stay home.” said the doctor, who said that no disinfection work was necessary in the building, because the school itself activated this mechanism, provided for in the contingency plan.

Maria dos Anjos Esperança hopes that the parents of the students, in general, will have the necessary calm, since she stressed that the students who are the closest contacts in this positive case are all contacted by the school and public health.
