As part of the meeting, it was decided to close the shopping centers before 9 pm, along with other measures that will be presented on Wednesday at a press conference at 11:30 am in the Municipality of Matosinhos.

The Matosinhos City Council decreed the closure of shopping centers at 9:00 p.m. and asks the Government to “adopt measures” for the municipalities of the Porto Metropolitan Area “most affected” by the increase in new cases of covid-19.

In a statement, the mayor of Matosinhos, Luísa Salgueiro, emphasizes that the palliative measures of the covid-19 pandemic “only make sense at the supramunicipal level” and that the municipalities “do not have competencies in fundamental areas” to face the increase of new cases of SARS-CoV-2 infection, given as an example teaching and limitation of travel.

Quoted in the statement, Luísa Salgueiro affirms that “decisions must be made within the central power and at the regional level.”

“It is useless for a municipality, in isolation, to adopt certain procedures if neighboring municipalities do not do the same,” said the president during the meeting of the Municipal Civil Protection Commission (CMPC), which was attended by the Regional Directorate of Health of the North (ARS-N).

Within the framework of the meeting, it was decided to close the shopping centers before 9:00 p.m., along with other measures that will be presented on Wednesday at a press conference at 11:30 a.m., in the Municipality of Matosinhos.

According to the autarky, the members that make up the CMPC also approved to recommend to the Government that the prohibition of circulation between neighboring municipalities be determined, in a similar way to that adopted in the municipalities of Lousada, Paços de Ferreira and Felgueiras.

At the same time, they recommend the implementation of distance education for the 3rd cycle, secondary, professional and university education, as well as the duty to stay at home, except in authorized circulations.

CMPC will also propose to share the georeferencing location of infected and quarantined people, as well as the locations where outbreaks were detected.

CMPC also requests the creation of a device to reinforce the operational capacity of the fire brigades to respond to COVID-19, similar to the device to fight forest fires ”, adds the autarky.

The covid-19 pandemic has already caused more than 1.1 million deaths and more than 43.5 million cases of contagion worldwide, according to a report prepared by the French agency AFP.
