Today 76,800 tests were counted, 30,800 less compared to the 107,600 indicated in the official data on Saturday.

With the count of eight new deaths associated with covid-19, the total number of deaths registered in the country since February amounts to 35,542.

Among the active cases of infection, the vast majority (about 30 thousand) are patients who are in their respective homes with mild symptoms of the disease.

There are currently 1,683 hospitalized patients, including 133 in intensive care units.

Italian Health Minister Roberto Speranza said today that Italy hopes to have the first vaccines before the end of the year and that the first doses, between two and three million, will be aimed at health professionals and elderly people with pre-diseases. , particularly those found in homes and residences for the elderly.

In an interview with the Italian daily Corriere della Sera, the minister also defended the need to start the school year in safe conditions in the coming weeks, recognizing, however, that “autumn will not be easy.”

UK

The UK has recorded 2,988 new infections with the new coronavirus in the past 24 hours, the highest daily number of new cases since May 23, British officials said today.

With these new diagnoses, which represent an increase with respect to the number of new cases reported on Saturday (1,813), the country has 347,152 people infected to date by the new coronavirus.

As in other European countries, the UK is also witnessing an increase in the number of infected people as society reopens after lockdown.

Part of this growth in cases can also be explained by the increase in tests carried out in the country, which are identifying people who have mild symptoms or who are asymptomatic.

This increase also comes at a time when British students are returning to the classroom.
The official data provided today by the British authorities also indicates the record of two deaths related to the covid-19 disease in the last 24 hours.

In total terms, the UK accounts for 41,551 deaths from covid-19, the highest number in Europe.
