Covid-19 in Portugal: three more deaths and 691 cases of infection | Coronavirus

There were three more deaths from covid-19 and 691 cases of infection in Portugal this Thursday, which corresponds to an increase of 1% compared to the previous day. Since the start of the pandemic, the country has recorded 1,931 deaths and 71,156 infections.


Of the new cases, 321 (46%) were identified in the Lisbon and Vale do Tejo region, where two of the three deaths registered in the last 24 hours occurred. The other death occurred at the Center. The data were released in the daily update of the epidemiological bulletin of the General Health Directorate (DGS).


There are 386 more recoveries compared to Wednesday, bringing the total recoveries to 46,676. There are currently 22,549 active cases, 302 more than the previous day. This figure results from the subtraction of recovered persons and deaths from the total number of infections.


588 people are hospitalized (17 more than Wednesday), 85 of whom are in intensive care units (eight more than the day before). The number of hospitalizations is the highest since May 21, when 608 people were infected with the new coronavirus. Since that day, many people were not hospitalized in intensive care (92).


The overall fatality rate in the country is 2.7%. Approximately 86.6% of the people who died with covid-19 in Portugal were over 70 years old. In the last 24 hours, two people over 80 years old (a woman and a man) and a woman between 60 and 69 years old have died.


The region with the most cases of infection is Lisbon and the Tagus Valley: 36,399. It is followed by the North (25,606, 267 more than Wednesday), the Center (5833, more 73), the Algarve (1466, 16 more) and the Alentejo (1382, 11 more). The Azores have 259 infections (two more than the previous day) and Madeira 211 (one more).


The highest number of deaths from covid-19 occurred in the North: 877. Then Lisbon and Vale do Tejo (739), Center (258), Alentejo (23), Algarve (19) and Azores (15) appear. Madeira has no record of deaths.
