Covid-19 in Portugal: new daily maximum of cases on the second day with the most deaths | Coronavirus

This Saturday Portugal registered 56 more deaths from covid-19 and 6,640 cases of infection. This is the largest daily increase in infections, surpassing the maximum recorded on Friday (5550). It is also the second deadliest day since the pandemic began: 59 people died on November 4. In total, the country has 2,848 deaths and 173,540 infections.


Of the new cases, 3,900 (58.7%) were identified in the North, where 31 people died on the last day. In the Lisbon region and the Tagus Valley, 1,856 new cases (28%) were registered and 19 deaths occurred. The remaining deaths were registered in the Center (three) and Alentejo (three).


2,420 people are hospitalized (less five), of which 366 are in intensive care units (26 more). The number of patients hospitalized in intensive care is the highest in history. The data were disseminated in the daily update of the epidemiological bulletin of the General Health Directorate, with information related to the previous day.


With over 3,993 people who recovered, the total recovered amounts to 97,747. There are another 2,591 active cases, for a total of 72,945. This figure results from the subtraction of recovered persons and deaths from the total number of infections.


The overall fatality rate in the country is 1.6%. Approximately 87% of the people who died with covid-19 in Portugal were over 70 years old: 2,479 people.


When observing the data by region since the beginning of the pandemic, it is concluded that the North region has the highest number of cases of infection (82,361) and deaths (1,279). Lisbon and the Tagus Valley are responsible for 67,725 infections and 1,109 deaths. The Center registers 15,757 cases of infection (712 more) and 352 deaths, the Algarve counts 3,367 cases (more 82) and 29 deaths and the Alentejo totals 3,361 infections (49 more) and 63 deaths. In the Azores there are 435 cases (plus 22) and 15 deaths and Madeira has 534 infections (plus 19) and one death from covid-19.
