Covid-19 in Portugal: income decreases, but there are more patients in intensive care units | Coronavirus

Portugal recorded 71 deaths of COVID-19 and 5,290 cases of contagion on Tuesday, according to the epidemiological bulletin of the General Health Directorate (DGS) released on Wednesday. In total, the country has 4127 deaths and 274,011 infections.


3,251 people are hospitalized (less 24), of which 517 are in intensive care units (11 more). The number of hospitalizations has decreased after three consecutive days of increase, while the number of people hospitalized in intensive care is the highest since the start of the pandemic.


Another 5123 people were recovered, bringing the total to 189,356. There are 80,528 active cases (plus 96), a number that results from the abduction of recovered people and deaths from the total number of infections.


Of the new cases, 3,224 (61%) were detected in the North, where 35 people died on the last day. In the Lisbon and Vale do Tejo region there were 1,177 new cases (22%) and there were 25 deaths. Ten people died in the Center and one in Alentejo.


The overall fatality rate in Portugal is 1.5%. Around 87.5% of the people who died from COVID-19 in the country were over 70 years old: 3,609. In these age groups, 11 men and seven women between 70 and 79 years old and 20 men and women died on the last day 23 women over 80 years old. Five men and two women between 60 and 69 years old and three men between 50 and 59 years old died.


The North has the highest number of infection cases: 143,129. They are followed by Lisbon and Vale do Tejo (92,230), Centro (26,455, plus 506), Alentejo (5576, plus 256) and the Algarve (4951, plus 81). The Azores have 844 infections (16 more) and Madeira 826 (30 more)


The highest number of deaths from covid-19 occurred in the North: 1942. Then there are Lisbon and Vale do Tejo (1492), Centro (531), Alentejo (102), Algarve (43), Azores (15) and Madeira (two ).
