“Areas dedicated to respiratory diseases will be created, as a result of the evolution of areas dedicated to covid” and the “learning” that was done with these structures, said António Lacerda Sales, in the framework of the conference “Value and strengthen services of Health in the Region of Leiria “, organized by the Economic and Social Group of the Region of Leiria, in the Monastery of Batalha.

“Now, these dedicated areas will be adapted and adapted to what is a different time, where the covid disease can coexist with the non-respiratory covid, and even in a situation of coinfection,” said the secretary of state.

As he explained, being an area dedicated to respiratory diseases, it will be possible to differentiate the diagnosis and “create distribution and security circuits so that people can differentiate between covid and non-covid disease, and the symptoms are the same.”

We are improving and will improve these areas dedicated to respiratory diseases, obviously always counting on the SNS 24 upstream, which is the structure that makes the indication for the person to go to the dedicated respiratory area, if necessary, through the algorithm ”, added.

At the conference, Lacerda Sales affirmed that the “criterion of the second wave is subjective”, admitting that we are facing a “phase of sustained epidemic growth”.

“This epidemic growth can become a second wave -as they want to call it- but this only increases our awareness that we have to protect ourselves, above all, the most vulnerable,” he advanced, referring that the disease has been “Change your profile and your characterization ”.

“Today, around 10/11% of new cases are over 70 years old and around 50% between 20 and 49 years old. This means that we are protecting the most vulnerable groups well, that is, in the homes and the elderly, but I recognize that there may be some more lax behaviors, in the sense of facilitating the younger groups, ”he said.

Lacerda Sales also said that Portugal “will double the testing capacity.”

“We were doing around 12/13 thousand tests, we want to reach 24 thousand tests a day and that doubles our testing capacity,” he declared.

The Undersecretary of State and Health – elected by the PS by the Leiria circle – stressed that Portugal has already tested “more than two million people and 240,000 per million inhabitants.”

“We are the sixth country in Europe to carry out tests. We are expanding our network of laboratory expansion, which will be reflected in the different regions. It focuses on the National Health Service, but also on the support of academia and the private sector. We will surely be able to carry out between 43 and 45 thousand daily tests at the country level, joining these three forces ”, he stressed.

The government official stated that “very quickly” it will be possible to reach 24,000 tests a day.

In August, António Lacerda Sales had already indicated that the tutelage is working on expanding the laboratory’s capacity with the aim of doubling the testing capacity to around 22,000 tests per day, referring to that date that 10,000 tests were performed per day in the National Service. Of health.

In Portugal, 1,931 people died from 71,156 confirmed cases of infection, according to the most recent bulletin from the Directorate General of Health.
