The Food and Economic Security Authority (ASAE) has been monitoring in recent days the compliance of masks (including social ones) and disinfectants and alcohol gel, as well as the hygiene of catering establishments. After these inspections, ASAE confiscated about 77,000 masks for lack of compliance.

178 liters of disinfectant material was also seized, the official said in a statement today.

In addition, ASAE also instituted eight criminal cases “for violating industrial property rights, namely the counterfeiting of luxury clothing brands, automobiles, and soccer clubs used in mask manufacturing and 1 case of a crime of speculation.”

“21 administrative offenses were also initiated, highlighting the main offenses, non-compliance with the labeling of personal protective equipment (masks), making biocidal products available on the market without the necessary authorization from the competent authority, lack of technical data on product safety, non-compliance with general and specific hygiene requirements, among others, “says ASAE.

The global value of the seizures is around 200 thousand euros.

The activity of a restaurant establishment was also suspended until the restoration of hygiene and food safety conditions, says the authority.

“ASAE, as the Criminal Police Corps and the Market Surveillance Authority, will remain vigilant in the market by taking actions to verify compliance with regulations related to the exercise of economic activities and, in the current context, the incidence of Inspection will necessarily continue to be intensified in matters related to the situation inherent in the COVID-19 pandemic, “he concludes.
