Prime Minister António Costa praised the behavior of the Portuguese over the weekend and assures that he is “preparing the future” of the country.

The President of the Government, António Costa, praised this Monday the Portuguese who, during the weekend, “gave an exemplary demonstration in the way in which they accepted the need to limit their circulation”, on Saturday afternoons and nights and on Sunday .

Faced with the praise, during the signing ceremony of the collaboration agreement in the field of housing within the framework of the Porto City Council’s “1st Law” program, António Costa wanted to remember that “there is and will be life beyond” the covid-19 .

“We have to get out of this crisis, not weaker but stronger than before,” he reiterated. Precisely for this reason, the Prime Minister has indicated that the Recovery and Resilience Program, whose negotiation with the European Commission “is progressing at a good pace” will serve to “prepare for the future”.

The plan, which “identifies vulnerabilities that must be addressed as a priority to be better prepared to face adverse situations such as the one we are experiencing,” allocates “more than 250 million euros” to intervene in the poverty points that exist in the Areas Metropolitans of Porto and Lisbon, in a “special program” for these two regions of the country.

In addition, it also foresees “interventions in employability, in schools, in the fight against addictions”, in mobility and in housing.

Regarding transport, 90 million euros will be invested to renew the bus fleet in the Metropolitan Areas, with the aim of reducing CO2 emissions. Regarding housing, António Costa announced that, “in the next six years”, 1,251 million euros will be invested in social housing.
