The prime minister, Antnio Costa, said this afternoon that “this, unfortunately, is not yet the time of indefiniteness”, so the Government approved the regulatory decree of the state of emergency without modifications.

“The Council of Ministers, as expected, approved without changes the renewal of the decree law that it had approved 15 days ago,” said the Prime Minister, in a statement from the Palcio da Ajuda, in Lisbon.

“This, unfortunately, is not yet the time of indefiniteness,” he justified, explaining that the other reason for maintaining the current measures is the fact that they are producing the desired effects of controlling the covid-19 pandemic.

The prime minister also said that the government will present the plan on March 11 due to lack of definition, which will be gradual in terms of opening activities. Antnio Costa assured that the lack of definition will begin in the schools.

Antnio Costagarantiu also said that at the end of March all people between 50 and 65 years old with associated comorbidities will be vaccinated against covid-19 and around 80% of the elderly over 80 years old.

? We can confirm the goal of having more than 80% of 80-year-olds fully vaccinated by the end of March. Can we make sure that the goal is complete vaccination for all people over 50 but under 65 and with associated comorbidities? Said Antnio Costa.

Antnio Costa said that due to the AstraZeneca vaccination, which is not yet recommended for people over 65, the goal of vaccinating enough people between 65 and 79 with associated comorbidities will not be reached by the end of March.

“This means that we are still relatively far from the moment when we can consider that the highest risk groups are adequately protected by vaccination,” he emphasized.

The prime minister also said that Portugal “has been implementing the vaccination plan and using all available vaccines.”
