António Costa admitted today, just over a month before Christmas, that the State of Emergency (EdE) should still be in effect at that time.

“If you ask me if there will be a State of Emergency at Christmas, I would be very surprised if there had not been an Emergency at Christmas, it would be an absolutely extraordinary evolution of the epidemic,” the Prime Minister said today at the briefing of the Council of Ministers where he announced more measures for the country that will come into effect between November 24 and December 8.

“With this concern to have the best possible balance between the effort to contain the pandemic and the greater personal, social and economic damage with the measures to be provided, we wanted the content of the Ede to be less intense but more extensive in its duration, and it has been, ”said the government official.

“In March we closed everything, now we have closed as little as possible, but naturally, by closing as little as possible, the EdE will take longer to produce its effects,” he added.
