Ten districts will enter the weekend with a yellow alert for the cold and another for maritime disturbances, according to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA).

According to the information released by IPMA, the yellow warning for cold, which may include “persistence of minimum minimum temperature values”, will be applied in the districts of Bragança, Viseu, Évora, Guarda, Vila Real, Leiria, Beja, Castelo Branco , Aveiro and Portalegre.

The yellow notice is in effect between 00:00 on Saturday and 09:00 on Sunday in these 10 districts.

Already under yellow alert due to the agitation of the sea, with waves from the southeast that can reach 2.5 meters in height, the district of Faro will be on the weekend.

In this case, the yellow warning is valid between 03:00 and 12:00 on Saturday.

IPMA warnings range from red (the most serious), orange, and yellow. The latter means that there is a risk situation for certain activities depending on the meteorological situation and that the population must monitor the evolution of meteorological conditions.

On Wednesday Civil Protection warned of a decrease in the minimum temperature between Thursday and Sunday across the continent, recommending “special care” for children, the elderly, people with chronic diseases and homelessness.

It also recommends “special attention” to braziers and fireplaces, which can cause poisoning by accumulating carbon monoxide and cause death, with adequate ventilation of the houses.
