Coimbra region with more than 1,000 infected by Covid-19

The Coimbra Region already registers more than a thousand cases of covid-19, reveals today the epidemiological report of the General Directorate of Health (DGS), published today.

In the municipalities of this territorial unit, which integrates the district of Coimbra plus the municipalities of Mealhada and Mortágua, today there are 1002 cases, with Coimbra (561) and Condeixa (143) being the most affected municipalities.

In the report, only data from municipalities with three or more positive cases are disclosed, and the document does not contain data on Pampilhosa da Serra.

Portugal registers 1,144 deaths related to covid-19 today, nine more than on Sunday and 27,679 infected, plus 98, according to the epidemiological bulletin published today by the General Directorate of Health.

Compared to Sunday’s data, which recorded 1,135 deaths, there was a 0.8% increase in deaths today.

Regarding the number of confirmed cases of infection with the new coronavirus (27,679), data from the General Directorate of Health (DGS) show that there are 98 more cases than on Sunday (27,581), which represents an increase of 0.4%.

The northern region has the highest number of deaths (651), followed by the Lisbon region and the Tagus Valley (248), the center (216), the Algarve (14), the Azores (14) and Alentejo, which registers In one case, the epidemiological situation report advances, with updated data until 24:00 on Sunday, keeping the Autonomous Region of Madeira without registering deaths.

According to data from the General Directorate of Health, 587 deaths are women and 557 are men.

Of the recorded deaths, 769 were over 80 years old, 228 were between 70 and 79 years old, 99 were between 60 and 69 years old, 36 were between 50 and 59 years old, 11 were between 40 and 49 years old and one patient was between 20 and 29 years.

The clinical characterization of the confirmed cases indicates that 805 patients are admitted to hospitals, eight more than on Sundays (+ 1%) and 112 in intensive care units (the same value).

23,181 people are recovering at home.

DGS data indicate that the municipality of Lisbon has the highest number of cases of infection with the new coronavirus (1,737), followed by Vila Nova de Gaia (1,455), Porto (1,303), Matosinhos (1,207), Braga (1,152), Gondomar (1,048), Maia (909), Sintra (769) Valongo (737), Guimarães (661), Ovar (626), Coimbra (561) and Loures (507).

Since January 1, 276,153 suspected cases have been registered, of which 2,642 are awaiting test results.

There are 245,832 cases in which the test results were negative, says the DGS, adding that the number of recovered patients is 2,549 (identical to that registered on Sunday).

The North region continues to register the highest number of infections, totaling 16,008, followed by the Lisbon region and the Tagus Valley, with 7,316, the Center region, with 3,545, the Algarve (348) and the Alentejo (237).

The Azores registered 135 cases of covid-19 and Madeira registered 90 confirmed cases, according to the bulletin published today.

DGS also registers 28,307 contacts under surveillance of the health authorities.

Of the total infected, 16,298 are women and 11,381 men.

The age group most affected by the disease is 50 to 59 years old (4,673), followed by the age group of 40 to 49 years old (4,649) and people over 80 years old (4,212 cases).

There are still 3,989 patients aged between 30 and 39 years, 3,334 between 20 and 29 years, 3,142 between 60 and 69 years and 2,358 between 70 and 79 years.

DGS also records 473 cases of children up to 9 years old and 849 of young people from 10 to 19 years old.

According to the daily report of the epidemiological situation in Portugal, 177 cases result from the importation of the virus from Spain, 137 from France and 88 from the United Kingdom. There are still hundreds of imported cases from dozens of other countries.

According to DGS, 42% of new coronavirus-positive patients have symptoms of cough, 30% fever, 21% muscle pain, 20% headache, 15% generalized weakness, and 12% shortness of breath. This information refers to 89% of confirmed cases.

The covid-19 pandemic has already claimed more than 282,000 deaths and infected more than 4.1 million people worldwide.

More than 1.3 million patients were considered cured by the health authorities.
