According to information from the Leiria District Relief Operations Center (CDOS), firefighters were summoned to intervene in 147 incidents, while they were still on the ground cutting and removing trees and cleaning roads, after the Crossing Subtropical Cyclones Alpha which caused various damages in the region.

In the city of Leiria, there were some floods at the end of the day, with floods registered at the Leiria Launch Center and at the Leiria Higher School of Education and Social Sciences where water and mud invaded the cafeteria, as shown in the images and the shared video. yesterday on Facebook.

According to Sandrina Milhano, director of ESECS, “it was a scare” for the employees who were in the dining room last night, given the force of the flood.

The official admits that, due to the pressure of the waters from the slope, some areas of the wall have given way, with the water invading the school grounds located at a lower level.

The employees and students present immediately went to work to clean the space, concluding the clean-up work. Susana Milhano reports that no major damage has been recorded and that the dining room is in working order. Meanwhile, the situation will be subject to evaluation, that is, to solve the problem and “better understand where to channel the waters.”

Power outages

The force of the wind and the intensity of the fall also affected the electricity grid, with several locations without electricity for several hours.

During the night, some municipalities took stock of the situation and alerted the population on their Facebook pages, as happened in Parceiros e Azoia, Monte Redondo and Carreira or Arrabal, in the municipality of Leiria.
