All 18 districts of mainland Portugal will be under yellow warning due to heavy rain forecast on Monday.

The National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC) warned, this Sunday, of the worsening of weather conditions as of Monday afternoon.

According to the meteorological information provided by the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA), a worsening of the meteorological conditions is expected from Monday afternoon, with intense, persistent and widespread rains in mainland Portugal, strong wind, to the south of the Montejunto-Estrela mountain system and in the highlands and strong maritime disturbances along the entire coast. All 18 districts of mainland Portugal will be under yellow warning due to the rain forecast. The Faro district is the only one that also has a yellow warning for ocean waves.

Given the expected meteorological conditions, Civil Protection indicates that there is the possibility of flooding, that the road surface may be slippery and alert to the possible formation of water tables. Damage to mounted / suspended structures can occur and there is the possibility of falling branches or trees, shoreline accidents or landslides.

Thus, Civil Protection points out that the possible impact of these effects can be minimized, especially through the adoption of appropriate behaviors, such as the adoption of defensive driving, speed reduction, or being especially careful when driving and staying close to wooded areas. or circulating along the historically most vulnerable coastline and riparian areas. The ANEPC also reminds that activities related to the sea should not be practiced, namely sport fishing, water sports and walks by the sea, also avoiding the parking of vehicles very close to the promenade.
