Civil Protection issues orange warning for rain and makes recommendations to the population

The Regional Civil Protection Service issued an orange warning this afternoon due to bad weather forecasts for the next few days in Madeira.

According to the contacts between the Regional Command for Relief Operations and the Funchal Meteorological Observatory (IPMA), a warning was issued for “a vast and complex depression system”, “which will be added during the 4th (Monday) with the formation of an extensive depressive valley facing southeast, periods of heavy rain or downpours accompanied by thunderstorms, at orange level

This orange warning refers to Monday) in particular between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Also on day 4 the wind, in the mountainous regions, will be temporarily strong (25 to 40 km / h) from the south / southeast with gusts that can reach 90 km / h. Conditions exist for the yellow wind advisory to extend to the southern coast of Madeira.

In light of the warnings now issued, the SRPC reiterates the alert for the following recommendations:

– Adopt defensive driving, reducing speed and taking special care with the possible formation of water tables;

– Guarantee the cleanliness of the rainwater drainage systems and the removal of aggregates and other objects that may be dragged or create obstacles to the free flow of water;

– The risks that, with these conditions, represent the automotive and pedestrian routes, especially in mountainous areas, exposed slopes and coastal areas, so special care is advised in activities during the period in which the notice is in force;

– Be especially careful when driving and staying near wooded areas, paying attention to the possibility of branches or trees and other debris falling onto the road;

– Damage to mounted or suspended infrastructure;

– Be attentive to meteorological information and indications from Civil Protection and Security Forces.
