Abrantes Mayor Manuel Valamatos was beaten with a stick by a businessman who entered the executive meeting, which was first broadcast online this Tuesday morning.
Quite restless and somewhat uncontrolled, citizen Jorge Ferreira Dias addressed the mayor and attacked him with a stick and hit him in the mouth, causing injuries to his lips. Vice President João Gomes was also shot in the arm. It is said that Manuela Marques, a Chamber official, was thrown into confusion, which is not seen in the images released online, after the technical services interrupted the transmission when the businessman addressed the mayor.
According to what JN learned, the three injured (president, vice president and employee) were treated by an ambulance team, after the PSP was called to remove businessman Jorge Ferreira Dias from the building. This citizen has a long-standing dispute with the Câmara de Abrantes for moral damage. The lawsuit is in court and is related to the bankruptcy of a civil construction company owned by Jorge Dias that attributes the responsibilities to the Abrantes Chamber.
The Administrative Court of Leiria acquitted the Abrantes Chamber about a year ago, a decision that was not accepted by the businessman.
