The latest proposal is the consecration of direct elections (open to all militants and not to the exclusive election of the delegates to the Convention) in Chega, as happened last weekend, with the reelection of the leader by more than 99%. “With this change, I believe that we are on the path of the most evolved parties in Europe, without fear of elections, scrutiny and without fear of asking the entire party to elect its president.”
Chega is growing and with him comes the growing pains: the internal guerrilla. The former head of list Chega por Leiria, vice president of the Leiria district, Luís Paulo Fernandes, presented a motion of censure directed at André Ventura and the district president, Ana Ferrinho. The former municipal deputy of Pedrógão Grande was recognized when he criticized the leadership and said that it was “regrettable” that he did not know what procedures were necessary to be delegated to the Convention. He also complained that it was necessary to have shouted in order to enter the last National Council of the party.
He ended up being applauded by some in the room. The motion also calls for the withdrawal of the political trust of two militants. In one of them, one of the reasons given is “misconduct on social networks”, with Luís Paulo Fernandes complaining of having been attacked on social networks on pages such as “Pai de Abutres” or fake Facebook profiles such as “Fofinhos de Leiria” . ”.
A short time later, the president of the Leiria district, Ana Ferrinho, also responded with a motion of censure, but to the National Council of Jurisdiction. Chega, also a militant No. 62, said that the list that competed with her was illegal and attacked the “boastful and promiscuous position of the Council of Jurisdiction, which does not respond and does not allow resources against decisions and attitudes of clear favor to friends and disadvantage of not friends, notorious, offensive and harmful to various districts from north to south of the country ”. In addition, she also proposed “an internal organ or mechanism of the party to appeal the decisions of the National Council of Jurisdiction, so that they are not immediately sovereign or only appealable outside the party (Constitutional Court).”
There were whistles and applause, which led the president of the Convention Bureau, Luís Filipe Graça, to warn about the imminent entry into television rights: “Let’s go live, so I ask delegates to behave as required by the Convention“.
One of the delegates, before presenting the motion, also tried to defuse the internal conflict by praising an external enemy: “Yesterday I thought that our enemies were outside, in Praça do Giraldo. Caged behind bars is fine, which is where they should be. ” He also said that he thought yesterday’s demonstration “the Berlin wall, the communists on the other side who want to go through here and us on the other side, who don’t want to spend anything there“.
