Cases increased by 25.9% in Guimarães, 17% in Famalicão and 12.6% in Braga

The number of new cases of contagion by the new coronavirus had a percentage increase of 25.9% in Guimarães in one week, followed by Famalicão with 17% and Braga with 12.6%, according to reports from the General Directorate of Health (DGS).

The municipality of Guimarães, between October 19 and today, registered 446 new cases of covid-19, going from 1,722 reported cases to 2,168.

In the same time period, Braga reported 230 new cases: from 1,819 to 2,049 active infections.

Famalicão, for its part, registered 1,021 cases a week ago, but today it adds 1,195 (plus 174), according to an analysis carried out by Lusa to the DGS bulletins that discriminate “confirmed cases” by municipality, detailed information that is released on Monday .

These municipalities of the Braga district are the only ones in the northern region with numbers that reach four digits, with the exception of the Porto Metropolitan Area, as well as Paços de Ferreira, Lousada and Felgueiras, subject from Friday to the duty to stay at home .

Portugal today counts 27 more deaths related to covid-19 and 2,447 new confirmed cases of infection, according to the epidemiological bulletin of the DGS.

The Northern region continues to register the highest number of new daily infections, today with more than 1,633 cases, totaling 51,932 and 1,030 deaths, of which eight in the last 24 hours, since the pandemic began in March.

The covid-19 pandemic has already claimed more than 1.1 million deaths and more than 43 million cases of infection worldwide, according to a report by the French agency AFP.

The disease is transmitted by a new coronavirus detected in late December 2019 in Wuhan, a city in central China.

After Europe succeeded China as the center of the pandemic in February, the Americas are now the one with the most confirmed cases and the most deaths.
