Questioned by Lusa, the same source said that the Prof. Hospital Dr. Fernando Fonseca (HFF) identified last Thursday a patient with covid-19 in the Pneumology Service, “where he was hospitalized for another pathology and with a previous negative test ”.

“In accordance with internal procedures, all patients in the service were re-examined, identifying five positive covid-19 patients, who are clinically stable,” explained the source.

The more than 100 service professionals were evaluated in less than 24 hours, according to the hospital, and all were negative.

Due to the cases detected, the hospital decided to temporarily close the Pulmonology Service to new hospitalizations.

The HFF currently has 42 covid-19 patients in hospital and eight in intensive care.

Portugal recorded 1,646 new cases of COVID-19 infection on Saturday, a record number since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in March.

In total, according to the most recent bulletin of the General Health Directorate, Portugal has already registered 2,067 deaths and 85,574 cases of infection.

The disease is transmitted by a new coronavirus detected in late December in Wuhan, a city in central China.
