In a press release released today, AML says that the schedule changes are “adjusted to meet the demand on those dates”, but safeguarding “the need to guarantee transportation services with essential equipment,” such as health units.

Depending on the operator of public road transport, the bus lines begin to operate on these two days with “non-school period”, on the eve of holidays or Saturdays, maintaining or reinforcing the service for hospitals.

By decision of the Government, on Monday and December 7, the eve of holidays, there will be no classes and the public function will have time tolerance.

The Government has asked the private sector to also lay off workers in these two days.

The government’s decision is part of a series of measures announced a week ago to contain the covid-19 pandemic, within the framework of the new period of state of emergency, which runs until 11:59 pm on December 8.

AML comprises 18 counties, nine to the north of the Tagus (Amadora, Cascais, Lisbon, Loures, Mafra, Odivelas, Oeiras, Sintra and Vila Franca de Xira) and nine to the south (Alcochete, Almada, Barreiro, Montijo, Moita, Palmela, Seixal , Sesimbra and Setúbal)

The covid-19 pandemic caused at least 1,453,074 deaths derived from more than 62.5 million cases of infection worldwide, according to a report by the French news agency AFP.

In Portugal, 4,427 people died from 294,799 confirmed cases of infection, according to the most recent bulletin from the Directorate General of Health.
