A penalty converted by the Portuguese midfielder, already after the final whistle of the game, rescued this Saturday the victory (3-2) of Manchester United in Brighton, in the opening of the third day of the English League.
The home team advanced on the scoreboard in the 40th minute, after a penalty signaled by the Frenchman Neal Maupay, to punish the failure of the Portuguese international on Lamptey, but the Red Devils reached the tie shortly after, in the 43rd, through an own goal by Lewis Dunk.
In addition to the five shots that hit Manchester United’s goal posts, Brighton saw the rival operate the change of course in the 55th minute, when Bruno Fernandes launched Marcus Rashford and the young English forward changed his opponents’ turns before mark.
In compensation time, Brighton managed to capitalize on the enormous pressure they were putting on United and reached the tie, by Solley March, in the 90 + 5 minutes, guessing the tie more than likely.
However, it would be an unusual time, if not unprecedented, to define the meeting, at 90 + 10 minutes. In the last game of the match, still at 90 + 7, Neal Maupay blocked a Harry Maguire header with his hand, inside the area, but the referee did not see the infraction and immediately ended the match.
While surrounded by players from both teams, Chris Kavanagh was alerted by the video referee (VAR), confirmed Maupay’s foul on the screen and scored the penalty, which Bruno Fernandes converted, literally after the hour, giving victory to the Red Devils.
Following the home loss to Crystal Palace, Manchester United, still one game behind, added their first Premier League win and inflicted Brighton with their second loss in the competition.
