In the ‘Dragões Diário’ newsletter, this Friday FC Porto highlights the club’s historical records, as well as those of Sérgio Conceição, after winning the 22nd Super Cup in the history of the Blue and Whites in the classic with Benfica, played in Aveiro .

«With the Cândido de Oliveira Super Cup in the shoe, the Christmas season began with great sporting joy for the entire Blue and White family. In addition to the moments of great joy offered to Nação Porto, the tasty 2-0 victory in Aveiro also provided a series of marks, ”can be read in the official FC Porto publication.

Here, then, are the records highlighted by the dragons:

– FC Porto is the king of the Super Cup. In 42 editions of the exclusive competition of democratic Portugal, the Invicta emblem has lifted the cup 22 times, twice the sum of all the other winners. And the test did not even begin for the Porto fans. In the inaugural edition, in 1979, José Maria Pedroto’s Dragons debuted with their left foot and lost in Antas, against Boavista, 2-1. Since then, FC Porto has played 31 matches and stands out in every chapter of the statistical book

– FC Porto won 11 of the 12 Super Cups they played against Benfica. In the last seven games between rivals in the competition, the Dragons have always kept the goal closed. The last time Benfica was able to celebrate against FC Porto in the Super Cup was more than 26 years ago, after a goal from Paneira that would be of no use. Since then, Porto’s balance speaks for itself: six wins, one draw, 12 goals scored and none conceded. Indisputable.

– Seven are also consecutive victories for FC Porto each time it participates in the Super Cup. In the last seven editions in which FC Porto was present, they won them all. Between 2009 and 2013, the Dragons reached a Penta, winning five consecutive Super Cups under the command of Jesualdo Ferreira, André Villas-Boas, Vítor Pereira and Paulo Fonseca. Since then, and with Sérgio Conceição at the helm, the national champions have added two participations and many other victories.

– This was Sérgio Conceição’s fifth title as coach of FC Porto. With the victory in Aveiro, the Porto coach equaled the number of achievements he had made in the service of the club as a player, in the late 1990s and in the 2003/04 season. The coach also equaled the victories record of Mestre Pedroto, Mihály Siska, Bobby Robson and Fernando Santos, all with a handful of titles on the Porto bench.

– Holder of the three main trophies of national football – championship, Portuguese Cup and Super Cup Cândido de Oliveira – FC Porto now reaches the sixth treble in its history, four more than Benfica and Sporting, with two each. The half dozen complete floors started in 1998, were repeated in 2003, 2006, 2009, 2011 and, finally, in 2020.

– In the last four games with Benfica, FC Porto have won four. The victory the day before yesterday saw Sérgio Conceição equal the marks achieved by José Mourinho, by the duo Artur Jorge / António Morais and by the triple Otto Bumbel / Yustrich / Flávio Costa. In 2003, 1985 and 1958, the Blue and White coaches beat the Lisbon rival for the fourth time in a row. Nobody has managed to win five consecutive classics in the history of Portuguese football and in three weeks we have the opportunity to do so.
