The Left Bloc will vote against the State Budgets for 2021, in the vote on October 28. “The National Table of the Left Bloc unanimously decided to vote against the State Budget proposal, as it is formulated,” Catarina Martins said in a statement this Sunday after the meeting of the party’s highest body. It is the first time that the Block has voted against a Budget of a Government of António Costa. The direction of the decided vote refers to the first vote (generality), it can change in the final vote if the Government changes the proposal.

The BE vote is not decisive for the viability of the Budget, which is already guaranteed with Joacine Katar Moreira, as the Observer said, however, it is the end of left support for António Costa in Parliament. So far, the party led by Catarina Martins has never failed Costa in making the state budgets viable in the first parliamentary vote on each of the proposals.

In response to questions from journalists, the party leader said that the party “has not completed any negotiation process,” but at some point the party took stock of the situation to decide this vote. He says that he exchanged several proposals and counter proposals with the Government “but it was not possible to reach an agreement on fundamental issues,” that is, on the issue of the SNS, he said.

Only on the second question did he answer if this vote will be maintained in the final vote of the OE, in November, and if BE will be watching from the bench the debate on the specialty: “This decision is about the vote in general, as formulated and taking into account where the negotiations with the Government reached ”, Catarina Martins replied”. “We do not decide against the votes without evaluating whether or not there are conditions for negotiation. BE did the best it could. ” guaranteed in the negotiation of the proposal presented by the Government on October 12.

In her statement, the BE leader immediately stated that “there is no more time to lose. Either it is in 2021 that we save the NHS, when we have the economic margin to start its great reform, or we accept the disease that will consume it ”.

In 2015, when António Costa created the device, he signed joint positions with the PCP, with the Left Bloc and with the Green Party of the Greens, a union that he did not achieve in this legislature, although he managed to approve the first State Budget, that of 2020.
