Biden’s presidential campaign depletes 35,000 fly swatters – Observer

It was shortly after the end of the debate between Mike Pence and Kamala Harris last Wednesday that Joe Biden’s campaign published a photo of the presidential candidate with a fly swatter and a caption that read “Give $ 5 to help get this campaign off the ground.”

The reason for this publication is due to the protagonist of the debate in the eyes of the internet: a fly that landed on the head of current Vice President Mike Pence, and insisted on staying, while he debated with Kamala Harris.

Two hours later, a fly swatter with the phrase “The Truth About Flies” was for sale on Biden’s campaign website for $ 10 (8 euros and 47 cents). A few moments later 35 thousand units were sold, exhausting the available stock.

CNN’s business quotes Biden’s campaign merchandise director Zach McNamara who says “we had seen the internet and our fans sharing this viral moment, so our digital team got together on the fly.” He adds that the goal was to show that “Joe Biden and Kamala Harris will always choose truth over lies, science over fiction, and union over division.”

Sellers at the Etsy online store also seized the moment to create t-shirts that read “the fly will vote” and “the truth about flies,” much like the fly swatter from the Biden campaign. A vendor on the site, Artemis Clark, created masks with the photograph of Mike Pence and the fly on his head, having already sold 1,666 units.
