It is called M-Factory Lab and it is the latest equipment installed on the Barcelos campus of the Cávado y Ave Polytechnic Institute (IPCA) to support training in a practical context in the areas of mechatronics, mechanics, robotics, machining and industrial management. in addition to “supporting innovation and technology transfer to industry in an environment that will foster what is expected for the industry of the future.”

The result of an investment close to 800 thousand euros, this industrial laboratory has a flexible distribution and occupies a total area of 644 square meters spread over two floors: the ground floor has workshops, supported by changing rooms; the first floor is for theoretical and practical teaching, with a classroom and panoramic view of the workshops.

This project by the architect Pedro Magalhães, an official source tells Business that it is “in line with the knowledge and research already developed” by this polytechnic in the areas of digitization and management of industrial processes, is inaugurated this Tuesday October 13, in charge from the Prime Minister, António Costa.

The new team is inspired by Factory 2050, built in Sheffield (UK) to house the AMRC – Advanced Manufacturing Research Center, a cutting-edge factory concept dedicated exclusively to collaborative research in reconfigurable assembly technologies, digitally assisted with production. of components and machining and capable of rapidly changing lines to manufacture individual parts or high value-added components.

In addition to an advanced machining laboratory with exploratory technologies for Industry 4.0 and Haas equipment, the M-Factory Lab also includes an “automotive workshop of the future”. Equipped with the latest Bosch technology, using the concept of “Connected Repair”, it follows “the needs of the latest users of vehicles with hybrid, electric and fuel cell propulsion technologies, who seek to think about the future of sales to the workshop 2050 “.

Costa goes to school

The day after the presentation of the State Budgets for 2021, the Prime Minister will be present at the opening session of the new academic year at the IPCA.
