“These six districts concentrated 75% of the activity registered in the peninsula,” said the same source, adding that “there is no record of victims.”

The districts of Lisbon, Setúbal, Santarém, Portalegre and Castelo Branco are also today under the red weather warning, the most serious, due to the forecast of heavy rains, after the passage of the Barbara depression, according to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA).

The red warning, the most serious of a scale of four, will be in effect in the five districts between 12:00 and 18:00 today.

The red warning corresponds to a meteorological situation of extreme risk. Faced with this situation, the IPMA recommends that people keep up to date with the evolution of meteorological conditions and follow the civil protection guidelines.

The IPMA also placed the island of Madeira under an orange alert until 6:00 p.m. today due to the forecast of strong southwest wind with gusts of up to 130 kilometers per hour.

In the Azores archipelago, the Graciosa, S. Jorge, Faial, Pico and Terceira islands (central group) are under yellow alert due to the forecast of heavy rainfall, and may be accompanied by a thunderstorm between 00:00 and 00:00 20:00 today.
