The massacre of bananas began in Cabedelo, in Viana do Castelo, contested by the PAN. Since September the logging intervention for the construction of a roundabout in the new entrances to the seaport has been suspended.
It began to be challenged by the Cabedelo Neighborhood Association, which after negotiating work mitigation measures, in environmental and safety terms, ended up reaching an understanding with the local authority. The PAN then proceeded to a precautionary action, which kept the work suspended. The City Council of Viana do Castelo has already presented its defense with “a reasoned resolution” and the work has begun, having already felled a dozen trees.
The PAN filed a lawsuit today before the Administrative and Tax Court of Braga with a view to denouncing the alleged breach of the Viana do Castelo Chamber, which today proceeded to sacrifice at least a dozen bananas despite that act. [o abate] it is suspended by the court, ”the party said in a statement.
Questioned by the Lusa agency, the mayor of Viana do Castelo José Maria Costa, rejected any breach, claiming that the reasoned resolution presented by the municipality before the court invoking the public interest of the contract “legitimizes the execution of the works, immediately” . .
