The funeral of nine-year-old Valentina Fonseca, who died at the hands of her father, Sandro Bernardo, and her stepmother, Márcia, took place on Tuesday in the Bombarral cemetery. It started at 5pm, gathering dozens of people nearby, with balloons and flowers, who followed the path of the hearse, but only members of the immediate family were able to attend the ceremonies, due to restrictions imposed by the covid-19 pandemic.

However, it was an emotional ceremony, in which Valentina also received a minute of silence. The boy’s mother, in moments of despair, felt ill, was assisted on the spot and then transported to a hospital.

The Parish Council of Atouguia da Baleia, for its part, decided yesterday to broadcast a mass in honor of the girl, on the Internet, on the day of her funeral. In Serra d’El-Rei, in Peniche, where the girl’s body was found, covered in bushes, many popular people also paid tribute to Valentina with a monument covered in flowers.

Lara’s mother, a two-year-old baby who was killed by her father in early February 2019, in Seixal, did not want to let Valentina’s death go unnoticed and regretted what happened through social media. On Facebook, Sandra Cristina commented on the death of “another defenseless girl whose father took the right to life.”

“If there is no love, indifference is preferable; If you don’t have compassion, let life go in another direction. But the problem is never the child. She is just the means used to reach the mother, whether for underlying reasons of hurt pride, monetary problems, ego problems, or oppressed characterlessness, “Sandra wrote, criticizing the authorities’ work.
